IDEOLOGY AND THE FRANKFURT SCHOOL

Ideology has become a capital concept in political philosophy, sociology, economics and law. Since the 1930s, the practical humanities have ceased to be understood as strictly scientific disciplines, with ideology now playing a fundamental role in them. In fact, there is increasing awareness that the word “science” and the methods of the positive sciences are used in practical disciplines to give credibility to an ideological foundation. The same statistical methods and mathematical models are used to defend opposing ideological positions. In this work we will explain where the “modern” concept of ideology comes from, what its role was in the development of the social sciences and how it evolved as rationalism and social scientism showing their deficiencies. At the end of that road is the Frankfurt School. It is the penultimate bastion of defense of socialist ideology in the West. We intend this explanation to also serve as a framework from which to explain some notes of the model that we have proposed about the functioning of ideology.
